It was developed a new family of laser diode power supplies in a particularly even construction up to 270A and output voltages till 24V.
The products are designed as OEM components to be attached to industrial or medical equipment and are fed by low-cost standard OEM power supplies of 24V or 48V.
The circuit is attached into a all fully closed aluminium housing and can be cooled either with air or water of the diode cooling circulation.
Because of the high switching frequency of 500 kHz there could be used small inductive reactances.
Thereby an especially even construction was possible.
In addition the advantage of the small inductive reactances is that a current control with an articulate higher dynamic is feasible, while older attachements usually work with 30 to 50 kHz.
The Control can either be analog or digital.
If the control is digital there can be deposited and called impulse profiles.
The typical voltage rise time with analog or digital modulation is 2A/µs.
To prevent protect the laser diode from damage there is also a simmer mode possible via modulation input.
Via the digital control input the diode voltage can be switched with typical times of < 1 µs.
With optimal arrangement of the laser diode and the diode power supply switching times less then 50ns are possible!
Basic attribute of the new diode power supply is the redundant electronic shutter, which fulfils the safety requirements of laser usage and above all the requirements of IEC 60601.
The basis of design for the multiple redundant shutterconcept is a risk analysis after DIN EN ISO 14971.
A mechanical safety shutter can be dropped / cancelled.
For shutter function a permanent function test is integrated for the shutter function.
The check and licensing by a named authority is in process.
The testing and approval by a notified body is in process.
For 24V input voltage 2 current controller modules are available in a 1 kW version up to 130A at 8V output voltage and a 2.5 kW version with up to 270 A at 9V.
For diode stacks with up to 12 diodes (about 24V) a 2.2kW version with 48V input voltage and a current control range has been realized up to 90A. A 5 kW version is planned.
